Graham Coull to depart Glen Moray for Dingle Distillery
Ireland’s Dingle Distillery has appointed Glen Moray’s Graham Coull as its new master distiller.
Coull will step into the position of master distiller from October 2019, marking his 25th year in the whisk(e)y industry.
In his new role, Coull will oversee the production of Dingle’s small batch whiskey releases, as well as manage the production of its Dingle Gin and Dingle Vodka.
Coull joins The Dingle Distillery in County Kerry following a “lengthy process” that saw applicants from as far as Australia apply.
He will leave his current role as distillery manager and master distiller of Speyside distillery Glen Moray after 14 years.
During his time at Elgin-based Glen Moray, Coull managed the expansion of the distillery and developed its range of single malt Scotch whiskies.
Coull began his career as a brewer at Webster’s Brewery in Halifax, west Yorkshire.
His first foray into whisky was in 1994 when he joined William Grant & Sons as bottling manager, before becoming distillation manager for the Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie distilleries.
“Becoming the distillery manager and master distiller at The Dingle Distillery is an ideal opportunity for me to continue my passion for creating whiskies,” said Coull.
“I’m extremely impressed with the quality of the maturing spirit at Dingle and welcome the challenge of distilling in Dingle’s unique maturation conditions to craft the next small batch releases of Irish whiskey.
“I’m looking forward to really exploring the similarities and differences between Scotch and Irish whiskey, comparing and contrasting the different styles and bringing my experience to develop the new expressions and releases. There are definitely exciting times ahead.”
At Dingle Distillery, the first new release Coull will oversee will be the next small batch whiskey, which will be unveiled at Dublin Whiskey Live in November 2019.
