Holyrood Distillery confirms opening date
The first single malt whisky distillery in Edinburgh for almost 100 years, Holyrood Distillery, will officially open on 30 July.
There hasn’t been a working single malt distillery in Edinburgh since The Edinburgh Distillery, also called Glen Sciennes, closed in 1925.
Holyrood will produce single malt whisky, plus a selection of gins and gin liqueurs. The distillery is located in a building that dates back to 1831 and was previously used as a railway goods shed.
The distillery will offer daily guided tours, which are now available to book online. Tickets for adults start from £14 (US$17.50) per person.
Rob Carpenter, Holyrood Distillery’s founder, said: “It’s been an incredible journey to get to this point and to be able to bring single malt whisky back to the heart of Edinburgh for the first time in almost 100 years is a true privilege.
“A big thank you is also owed to our neighbours who have been patient with the build over the past year.”
